Outreach

With the Faculty of Science, the Physics and Atmospheric Science Department participates in a number of outreach programs in the community. Mainly aimed at students in grades 6 through 12, these programs are a fun way for young learners to explore physics and atmospherice science through hands-on activities. Students - and their teachers - from all across the province are welcome!

Our outreach programs

Physics Fun and Discovery Days

Teachers from grades 6 to 12 are invited to bring their students to learn more about Physics and Atmospheric Science. Morning and afternoon sessions are available free of charge, with activities including the famous Holo-tent exhibit, a show in the Halifax Planetarium, and the Discovery Room.

Imhotep's Legacy Academy (ILA)

Imhotep's Legacy Academy is an after-school science enrichment program which targets African Nova Scotian learners in grades 7, 8, and 9. Â鶹´«Ã½ science students visit participating schools weekly to deliver hands-on science activities, alternating with homework help. ANS learners, a maximum of five per grade, are selected by the school administrators.

SuperNOVA at Â鶹´«Ã½

SuperNOVA at Â鶹´«Ã½ is a not-for-profit organization offering week-long camps each summer for all youth. A number of enrichment camps are also offered throughout the province. For over 15 years, SuperNOVA camps have been empowering youth to believe a career in science is attainable - and exciting.

Shad Valley

Shad Valley is a four-week enrichment program for students at the secondary level. Students spend the month of July living in residence at one of Shad Valley's host university campuses across Canada - including Â鶹´«Ã½. Students are eligible if they are currently completing grade 10, 11 or 12, Quebec secondaire IV, V or CEGEP I, or the international equivalent.
