Certificates

Students can build skills in specialized areas when they complete a certificate alongside their regular degree requirements. Biology students may be interested in the following Faculty of Science certificates.

Animal BehaviourÌýÌý

This certificate is a collaborative effort of both the Biology and Psychology departments. It provides students an opportunity to take, within their BA or BSc Honours or Major program, a set of classes and a research project that will accord them an animal behavior specialization.

Aquaculture and the EnvironmentÌýÌý

This certificate trains students not only with lectures but also with an assortment of hands-on tools, including labs, field-trips and computer modelling. The objective is to prepare students to play a significant role in the development of a more resilient and healthy food system for today and for the future.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

This certificate requires successful completion of four full credits at the level of B or higher including the capstone class: BIOL/ENVS 4001 Environmental Impact Assessment.Ìý This Certificate is largely for undergraduate students in Biology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Geography, ÌýInternational Development Studies, OceanographyÌýand the College of Sustainability although others can apply if they meet the requirements.

Genetics Ìý

This certificate should be undertaken by graduating students in their final year of studies. The Certificate will be handed out at graduation and shown on a student's transcript.

Geographic Information Science (GIS)ÌýÌý

This intended to reflect that the student has completed courses of study in geographic information systems and geomatics that are appropriate for further study or employment related to geographic information science.

This on developing leadership and communication skills specifically in and through the sciences, and enabling Â鶹´«Ã½ science graduates to better understand the nature of science, the process of change, and to have the skills to communicate and to lead others effectively.
