Congratulations to Harper Metler, Alida Doelle, Amelia Eaton, and Essie Mehina, for their outstanding showing in the 2023 Smith Shield Moot on October 4.

The Schulich School of Law would like to congratulate alumnus W. Paul Riley, QC (LLB 鈥�95) for his appointment to the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Honorary Degree recipient Elizabeth Cromwell has worked tirelessly to have the contributions and struggles of the Black Loyalists recognized as a central piece of Nova Scotian and Canadian history.

Congratulations to Maxime Chambers-Dumont (third-year student), Teagan Markin (鈥�17), Esher Madhur (鈥�16), and Leah Burt (鈥�14) for securing clerking positions at the Supreme Court of Canada.

We would like to congratulate alumni Justice Andrew Phillip Avtar Mayer and Justice Robyn M. Ryan Bell, appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Prince Rupert and the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa, respectively.

The Schulich School of Law extends its congratulations to alumni Philip J. Star, QC (鈥�81), Kathryn M. Dumke, QC (鈥�93), Alonzo Wright (鈥�94), George Filipovic (鈥�02), The Honourable Justice Patrick J. Duncan (鈥�79), and Professor Naiomi Metallic (鈥�05) for their appointments to Judicial Advisory Committees (JACs) in Nova Scotia and the Yukon.

This year, two of our third year Indigenous students, Paige Wilson and Richard Kulesza, along with me as their coach, participated in the annual Kawaskimhon Aboriginal Moot. The Moot involves a multi-party negotiation with normally 7 to 8 parties represented at each table (this year four tables occurred simultaneously).

On Feb. 8, 30 students, staff, and faculty members at the Schulich School of Law participated in the nation-wide Day of Solidarity. The Day of Solidarity was created to promote unity and understanding in the wake of President Trump鈥檚 controversial immigration and refugee policies. In similar gatherings in law schools across the country, students came together to learn about Islam鈥檚 positive impact on the lives of their classmates.
