Undergraduate
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers exciting programs that give students the theoretical foundation and practical experience to meet the needs of Canadian industry. All first-year students will complete the core engineering program before applying to their desired discipline in second year.
Choose from two undergraduate degree options in Mechanical Engineering:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) - Co-op Program (5 years)
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) - Non Co-op Program (4 years)
All Â鶹´«Ã½ Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by theÌý.
As a mechanical engineer, you can:
- Design and improve machines and mechanisms such as cars, spacecraft, boats, bikes, disk drives, and printers
- Design and implement effective solutions for existing and emerging energy industries, including renewable energy
- Develop and adapt bio-mechanical equipment for exercise, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and sport
- Select and install equipment for indoor environment control, including heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning for buildings and vehicles
- Organize and maintain production processes for food, lumber, paper, petroleum and textile industries
The Mechanical Engineering program at Â鶹´«Ã½ provides a well-balanced technical education. We prepare graduates to practice in design, research, development, fabrication, testing, processing, construction, operation, planning, sales, and management.
In addition to courses taught by our expert faculty, you'll gain a wide range of hands-on experience, including:
- 3-D technical drawings for computer-aided design
- Machine shops and 3-D printing/rapid prototyping
- Robotics and computer control
- Refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning
- Solar energy (photovoltaic and thermal)
- Heat transfer and heat exchangers
- Marine craft model testing
- Stress analysis and mechanical vibrations
- Electrical measurements of mechanical quantities
- Computer modeling and simulation of physical systems
