ResearchÌýprojects in the lab are focused on how attention and working memory are regulated, what happens to these cognitive functions with aging and disease (such as damage due to stroke or Parkinson’s disease), and the development of clinical interventions to improve function. Our research approach includes investigating basic mechanisms in normal subjects, as well as trying to understand how these processes are affected by brain damage and how best to treat them in patients. We use tests and procedures drawn from clinical neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, behavioural medicine, and neuroimaging.

Our research involves collaborations with researchers in a variety of disciplines, including Kinesiology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Chronobiology and Sleep, Neurology, Physiotherapy, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Our main goal is to apply our research to the development of better interventions for cognitive problems in order to improve function and quality of life.

Problems with thinking, memory and concentration are common in brain injury and disease and make dailly activities such as driving, working, or going to school more difficult.Ìý

Unfortunately, there are few standard treatments and our research studies are designed to develop treatments and make them fun by using video-game technology.
