Â鶹´«Ã½ Pride Events 2024!


Halifax Pride Parade: 
Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to join the Â鶹´«Ã½ group marching in the  on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The parade begins at 12:00 p.m. (rain or shine), and if you would like to march with Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s contingent we ask that you please arrive by 11:30 a.m. The marshalling area is along Cogswell Street on the Halifax Commons. Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s parade number will be provided by organizers two weeks before the event.

Progress Pride Flag Raising: On behalf of Student Affairs, the Office for Equity & Inclusion, and all of the faculty, staff, and students on the Pride Planning Committee, we welcome the entire Â鶹´«Ã½ community to join us as we raise the Progress Pride Flag on Tuesday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the . A free BBQ on the Killam Library Podium will follow the flag raising.

Big Gay Film Fest Screenings: Big Gay Film Fest will be screening three movies this month, including But I'm A Cheerleader on July 10, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on July 17, and The Queen Of My Dreams on July 24. The screenings will be held on the Sexton Campus Commons (entrance through , 5257 Morris Street). You're welcome to bring your own blankets and lawn chairs. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the film will be shown indoors in the Richard Murray Building Design Commons (same entrance). Free to the public! Doors will open at 8:30 p.m. for each screening, and the films will begin at dusk.


The 2SLGBTQ+ Advisor (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and any non-normative identities) supports students throughÌý1-1 advising, group programming, and campus-wide educational eventsÌýto create a student experience that is meaningful and facilitates a sense of belonging.

The 2SLGBTQ+ Advisor also serves as a resource for members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ and University of King's College community, including faculty and staff, to further support 2SLGBTQ+ students.

Supports and services


The 2SLGBTQIA+ Advisor, Olivia Fader,Ìýis available for appointments for any reason, large or small. This includes:

  • Accessing and referrals to gender affirming care
  • Seeking support around name or gender marker changes at Â鶹´«Ã½ (or provincially)
  • Navigating any of the services at Â鶹´«Ã½
  • Advocacy for matters related to identity or gender expression
  • Talking about your experiences, including any barriers you may be facing (academic, wellness, belonging, etc.)
  • Discussing any program or service ideas you may have, or any opportunities to collaborate
  • Identifying gaps in supports for students

Â鶹´«Ã½ the space


In-person appointments take place in Olivia's office in the Student Accessibility CentreÌýin Halifax (Note: NOT the Mark A. Hill Centre). The Student Accessibility Centre is in the Killam Memorial Library, via the first door on the right when you enter the University Avenue entrance. You may check in at the front desk, and Olivia will meet you and bring you back to her office. There are two large armchairs to choose from, with other chair options nearby. This is an interior office with a window to the Killam Atrium, and is lit by lamps (no overhead lights). Ìý

Truro Students: Olivia is on the Agricultural Campus for appointments or drop-ins a few times a month. If you’d like an in-person appointment in Truro, email oliviafader@dal.ca and we can set one up.

Sexton and King’s Students:ÌýOlivia can also set up an office space to meet with you on your campus. Just email her atÌýoliviafader@dal.ca to coordinate.
