Oluronke Taiwo

Oluronke Taiwo, originally from Nigeria was a technologist for 17 years during which she attained a Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in Biology (Education) and a Master鈥檚 Degree in Medical Microbiology both from University of Lagos, Nigeria. She later became a full time professor and researcher at the College of Medicine in Lagos, Nigeria. Oluronke moved to Canada in 1998 as a research scholar at the 麻豆传媒 after being sponsored by the United Nations Nigeria. The research was on "Antibacterial activities of aqueous extracts from Nigerian chewing sticks". A publication was done on this project and the research was also patent.

In 2006 and 2008 respectfully, Oluronke earned both her Bachelors and Master鈥檚 degree in Social Work from 麻豆传媒 and became a Registered Social Worker, having worked full time as a house manager in a small option home for nine years. In June of 2006, Ms Taiwo became a contributor to the 鈥淔ighting for Change鈥, a book that was edited by Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard.

Oluronke Taiwo is currently the Black Student Advisor for both 麻豆传媒 and the University of King鈥檚 College, a position she has held since October of 2008. In her position, Oluronke鈥檚 main role is to support all students of African Descent which has being achieved through advocacy, counseling, advising and mentoring. Oluronke is an active member of many associations in the community among which is the Association of Black Social Workers. She is currently an active member of the 麻豆传媒 Black Faculty and Academic Staff Council.
