Today's meeting is with Shane LeBlanc, Director of Postgraduate Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine. In this role, he supports the training of Medical Residents and other Postgraduate trainees across the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Dal?

My favourite part of working at Â鶹´«Ã½ is the rewarding nature of supporting the many exceptional learners. Â鶹´«Ã½ is filled with passionate students doing exciting and important work. I have had the privilege of supporting medical residents who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to support our health-care system in Atlantic Canada. I worked with co-op students who worked fascinating jobs throughout Canada and the world. I also had the opportunity to deliver the skills to help students launch exciting careers in their field. Supporting these learners has been fulfilling work and energizes me as an employee at Â鶹´«Ã½. Ìý

What’s the most surprising thing we might see on your resume/cv?

I worked in Thailand for a year where I managed English education at two schools and a tutoring centre. It was one of my first jobs out of university and was a formative experience in my career and in my life generally. For any students reading this, I would definitely recommend working or studying abroad as a way to see the world while you study or after you graduate. If you are interested, visit the International Centre — they have so many great resources to help you!

Thailand was also where I took up surfing, which ultimately led me to the East Coast and to Â鶹´«Ã½ 🤙 .

Which has been more valuable in your career, your education or your experience, and why?

For myself, experience has been more valuable. I found for my own personal and professional growth, learning by doing helped me grow the most. My appreciation for hands-on learning is one reason why I have involved myself in supporting experiential education throughout my career at Â鶹´«Ã½. Â鶹´«Ã½ has many excellent ways to assist learners in gaining work experience throughout their education, and the investment and focus in this area has made me proud to work at Dal.
