The Department of Philosophy at Â鶹´«Ã½ invites applications for a probationary tenure stream position at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2016. This position is subject to budgetary approval. Areas of specialization: Epistemology, Metaphysics, History of Philosophy: Rationalists and Empiricists. Areas of competence: critical thinking, other areas in the history of philosophy, especially Ancient or Kant.
The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with graduate student supervision and committee work. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate would be able to teach the following classes: third-year survey classes and advanced topics classes in Epistemology and Metaphysics, second year classes in the Rationalists and the Empiricists, critical thinking, and intro to philosophy. Other areas of competence in the history of philosophy would be assets.
Applications should include: a complete curriculum vitae, transcripts (undergraduate and graduate), writing sample, teaching dossier (including evidence of teaching effectiveness), a statement of research and teaching interests and philosophies, and three confidential letters of recommendation (in hard copy, forwarded separately by the referees). A record of publication will be an asset.
