Building Systems Technician
(Electrical Apprentice)
SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Building Systems Technician (Electrical Apprentice) is responsible for maintenance (preventative, corrective and immediate repair) and mechancial work with an emphasis on electrical systems maintenance.
Under the Supervision and guidance of the Electrical Journeyman, the Building Systems Technicial is responsible for the following:
•ÌýÌý ÌýAssemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring equipment including but not limited to panels, receptacles, appliances, lighting, motors, pumps, controls, etc.
•ÌýÌý ÌýDiagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair (pumps, motors, HVAC, lighting systems) on 120V, 208V, 240V and 600V systems
•ÌýÌý ÌýPlan, layout, and install electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specs and Canadian Electrical Code including renovations/additions to residence rooms, offices, and classrooms
•ÌýÌý ÌýPerform all tasks in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and National Building Code
•ÌýÌý ÌýInstallation and maintenance of card access system (residence room doors, and Corby System)
•ÌýÌý ÌýPerform routine maintenance checks on building mechanical systems including but not limited to inspection, maintenance and repair of belts/filters
•ÌýÌý ÌýPerform monthly inspections, repairs, and necessary replacements of fire safety equipment including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire doors and pull stations
•ÌýÌý ÌýAssist with emergency generator maintenance and testing
•ÌýÌý ÌýAssist in the coordination of prompt and complete inspections and service to life safety systems by outside contractors (fire alarm, sprinklers)
•ÌýÌý ÌýAssist outside contractors with troubleshooting and repairing of HVAC Systems
•ÌýÌý ÌýAssist outside contractors/DAL with steam heat system problems
•ÌýÌý ÌýOn Call – 24 Hour, 7 Day contact for University in case emergency services are required
•ÌýÌý ÌýSnow removal

Training/Specialization – Electrical Apprentice, Fall Arrest, First Aid, JGL & Scissor Life Certified, Special Constable – Parking Enforcement
Applicants with computer experience and trade related work experience and knowledge will be given preference.
