WORK ASSIGNMENT:
To teach one section of CHIN 1031.03 Introduction to Mandarin Chinese Part I, in the academic year, fall term 2015-2016. The class is currently scheduled for MWF 9:30-10:30 am. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level will be an asset. All applications should include a letter of application with a curriculum vitae and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Applicants who have not taught at Â鶹´«Ã½ should also arrange to have two confidential letters of reference forwarded to the Department.

For each part-time academic the Chair will conduct an annual assessment of teaching performance, now required under the CUPE Collective Agreement. This assessment will be based on student ratings of instruction and may also include classroom observation, conducted either by the Chair or a representative from the Centre for Learning and Teaching with reasonable advance notice.
