The Annual History Curling Bonspiel is the most anticipated social event in the Department of History. Every February, intrepid students and faculty alike hit the ice for an epic contest of will, skill, dexterity and, ultimately, humility. The bonspiel is held at one of Halifax's cherished institutions, the Mayflower Curling Club, which is also home to the championship rinks of Colleen Jones and Mark Dacy. Students (senior undergraduate and graduate) are very encouraged to participate, and faculty come from a number of departments in FASS. No skill is needed — only enthusiasm. Pre-bonspiel introductory tutorials are provided by History's departmental cynosure of curling, Phil Zachernuk.
