ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý Lab demonstrators will co-facilitate the lab component of this course.Ìý They will be responsible forÌýÌýÌýÌý demonstrating, teaching and assessing students in the following patient care skills fundamental to all professionalÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý streams of the BHSc program:Ìý communication methods, vital signs, patient interview, oxygen therapy, body mechanics, patient care support equipment, standard precautions, isolation and sterile techniques, drug administration andÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý venipuncture.Ìý All labs are conducted in a simulated hospital ward environment in the Bethune Building.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:ÌýÌý Demonstrated proficiency in the above listed clinical skills is required (senior RSPT andÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý NUMT students are encouraged to apply).Ìý Successful applicants must be familiar with the BHSc curriculum, enjoy workingÌýÌýÌýÌý with students and have good communication skills.Ìý They should hold current certification of a Standard First AidÌýÌý Course and CPR-C.

02 POSITION:ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Lab Demonstrator - NUMT 2000, Radiopharmacy
ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Winter (January 2014 - April 2014) - 6 hrs/week for 10 weeks

PAY RATE: $20 per hour

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý WORK ASSIGNMENT: Set-up/prepare equipment and/or site for the learning experience. Supervise, stimulate, challenge andÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý monitor student performance in a nuclear medicine lab setting, ensuring that the lab exercise is as safe and asÌýÌýÌýÌý effective a learning experience as possible. Review submitted labs and provides written feedback to Professor ofÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Record. Clean up of equipment/site after the learning experience.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Lab topics: operation of a dose calibrator, preparation of lyophilized kits using radioactive material, doseÌýÌýÌý calculation, assay and dispensing techniques, organization of a radiopharmacy daily plan, receipt and storage ofÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý radioactive shipments and associated maintenance of records, contamination monitoring of workspace and personnel.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Relevant training/experience in nuclear medicine technology.Ìý Good interpersonal skillsÌýÌýÌýÌý required to work with students. Above average understanding ofÌý radiopharmacy subject matter. Current CAMRTÌýÌýÌýÌý certification. Undergraduate or master’s degree preferred. Previous teaching experience is desirable.

03 POSITION:Ìý Lab Demonstrator Clinical Education Course

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Winter (January 2014 to April 2014) – 5 hours/week for 12 weeks

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý WORK ASSIGNMENT: Under guidance from faculty the successful candidate will evaluate student performance and provideÌýÌýÌýÌý feedback to students and faculty in a nuclear medicine clinical setting. The primary responsibility will be to serve as a clinical resource. The successful candidate will collaborate with school faculty to ensure course objectives are metÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý and provide remedial assessments as required. This discipline specific course critically evaluates the theory andÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý practice of non-imaging procedures.Ìý Topics to include: thyroid uptake, thyroid therapy for hyperthyroidism, thyroidÌýÌý ablation therapy, bone mineral density, joint effusion therapy, radiolabelled blood products, wipes/ surveys/ bioassaysÌýÌý red cell mass/ plasma volume, c-14 urea breath test.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý WORK ASSIGNMENT: Under guidance from faculty the successful candidate will evaluate student performance and provideÌýÌýÌýÌý feedback to students and faculty in a nuclear medicine clinical setting. The primary responsibility will be to serve as a clinical resource guide providing clinical evaluation and competency assessment. The successful candidate willÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý collaborate with school faculty to ensure course objectives are met and provide remedial assessments as required. ThisÌýÌýÌý discipline specific course integrates theory to practice in all aspects of nuclear medicine general imaging. SystemsÌýÌýÌý include: CNS, GI, GU, Endocrine, Respiratory, Skeletal and Tumour/Inflammatory.

PAY RATE:Ìý $20.00/hour

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The lab instructor will co-facilitate the lab component of RADT 1020, which consists of thirteen labÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý sessions.Ìý Seven of these lab sessions are clinical labs where the lab instructor will be responsible for orienting students to the clinical area, assigning students to preceptors (where appropriate) and supervising the students inÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý performing radiographic procedures.Ìý The remaining labs include demonstrating/coaching students through positioning sÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý keletal radiographic examinations, reviewing radiographic images and related anatomy, and co-invigilating a lab test.
ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Total time:Ìý 13 sessions @ 4 hours = 52 hours (3 hour lab plus 1 hour prep each week)

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Certification in radiological technology, current membership with national and provincial professional associations, recent clinical experience and experience precepting students are required.Ìý ExcellentÌýÌýÌýÌý understanding of general radiographic procedures and imaging equipment is also required. Previous teaching experienceÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý is desirable. The successful applicant must have knowledge of the radiological technology curriculum, enjoy workingÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý with students, and have good communication skills. Undergraduate and master’s degree preferred.
