The 2020 debut novel by Francesca Ekwuyasi envelopes readers in the interconnected stories of three Nigerian women: Kambirinachi and her twin daughters, Kehinde and Taiye.

Ekwuyasi's debut was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and was a finalist in CBC's 2021 Canada Reads competition. It is also a finalist for a 2021 Lambda Literary Award.

The novel is about "choices and their consequences, of motherhood, of the malleable line between the spirit and the mind, of finding new homes and mending old ones, of voracious appetites, of queer love, of friendship, faith, and above all, family."

Ekwuyasi is originally from Lagos, Nigeria and now lives in Halifax. In addition to writing, she is also a multimedia artist and filmmaker whose work touches on themes of faith, family, queerness, consumption, loneliness and belonging.
