On Thursday, Dal Security enacted a precautionary lockdown on 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Carleton and Sexton Campuses shortly before 10 a.m., based on information received from the Halifax Regional Police (HRP). The lockdown was then lifted around 11:30 a.m.

As explained by Director of Security Mike Burns in an email to faculty, staff and students, the lockdown was put in place after discussions with HRP about unconfirmed reports of an armed man in the downtown area of Halifax, near Brunswick and Duke Streets. It was removed once Dal Security was advised there was no longer a threat in place.

鈥淚t was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our students, staff and faculty on the Carleton and Sexton Campuses,鈥 said Burns in his email. 鈥淥ur Security Team will continue to work with Halifax Regional Police to take any precautions necessary to protect the safety of our students, faculty and staff.鈥

The events followed yesterday鈥檚 shooting death in Ottawa that received national and international attention.

Dal Security reminds Dal community members that to be aware of their surroundings and to call campus security at (902) 494-4109 if they see anything of a suspicious nature. For more information on the Dal Alert notification system and to sign up, .
