It鈥檚 no surprise Dal students are bursting with social and intellectual vibrancy. But when you sit down with them to talk about their lives outside of the classroom, it's still impressive how active many of them are on campus and in the community. From athletics and academics to student government and volunteerism, Dal students are out there making a difference.

It鈥檚 that side of the student life experience that will be celebrated on March 26 at the second annual Student Impact Awards.

鈥淲e feel that recognizing students鈥 efforts and accomplishments is crucial to fostering a strong 麻豆传媒 community,鈥 says DSU Vice-President of Student Life Gavin Jardine. 鈥淎ll sorts of students are eligible to win awards, but it鈥檚 the passionate ones who generally succeed.鈥

With over 200 DSU student societies, these awards only highlight the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the diverse ways students participate on and off campus.

鈥淭here are many awards available, making the event broad and open to so many people,鈥 says Chris Glover, manager of student leadership at the Student Career and Leadership Development Centre. 鈥淔or example, there鈥檚 a Green Award for the student who has made the most significant contribution to improving awareness on environmental and sustainability issues at 麻豆传媒.

"It鈥檚 great to be able to showcase the amazing work that student leaders are doing here.鈥

A broad range of categories

There are five categories and approximately 70 awards in total, some of which are geared toward student groups, such as Best Departmental Society, Best Faculty Society, Best Student Society, Most Charitable Student Society Award and Top Residence Council. But others target individual student excellence, including 12 Faculty Leadership Awards, up to six Residence Life Impact Awards, up to five Rising Star Awards (specifically for first-year students), International Student of the Year, Student Activist and Student Entrepreneur of the Year.

This year鈥檚 event will also include a new award, presented by the DSU to a faculty member.

鈥淚t will be awarded to a Dal professor who has demonstrated a student-centered approach to teaching by going above and beyond for students, and encouraging them to push the boundaries of their learning,鈥 says Glover. A student committee will evaluate the nominees鈥 impact on students鈥 learning experiences.

Nominations for the Second Annual Student Impact Awards are open until Friday, February 15. For a full list of awards and criteria, and to submit nominations, visit the .
