A group of 23 leaders from the business, health and community sectors put their hearts and feet together to mark the first Heart&Stroke Big Bike ride of the 2008 season. The team raised more than $31,000 from one ride as part of the provincial kick-off event on Monday, July 14 at Sackville Landing on the Halifax waterfront. Â
The Heart&Stroke Big Bike event earned its title from the 30-seat bicycle that teams of enthusiastic riders pedal – raising funds, attention and laughs along the way. A special Big Bike team—Leaders for Life—led the pedaling action with a group of leaders from the business, health and community sectors participating. Each rider committed to raising a minimum of $1,000.
Â鶹´«Ã½ is well represented on the big bike’s Leaders for Life team. Faculty members and researchers on the team include: David Anderson, professor of medicine, community health and epidemiology and pathology and Chief of Hemathology for Capital Health; Will Webster, Dean, Faculty of Health Professions; Gerald Johnston, associate Dean Research, Faculty of Medicine; Marilyn MacKay-Lyons, associate professor, School of Physiotherapy; Roger McLeod, associate professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Grace Warner, assistant professor, School of Occupational Therapy; Hilary Duncan, researcher coordinator, Laboratory for Cognitive Health and Recovery, Nick Giacomantonio, Capital Health, Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, and assistant professor of medicine; and Gord Gubitz , stroke neurologist at Capital Health and Â鶹´«Ã½.
