Teams swim to first place at AUS meet

The AUS Swim Championships were held at UNB last weekend and the 麻豆传媒 swim teams stroked into first place.

麻豆传媒鈥檚 Lauren Dorrington was named AUS Female Athlete of the Meet, 麻豆传媒 Female Athlete of the Week and AUS Athlete of the Week, after winning all four individual events she competed in at the championship. Ms. Dorrington was also part of two relay teams that both captured first place.

Bryce Tung also from 麻豆传媒 was named AUS Male Athlete of the Meet, 麻豆传媒 Male Athlete of the Week and AUS Athlete of the Week, after taking first place in three events. Tung was also apart of the men鈥檚 400 metre freestyle relay and 400 metre medley relay, which helped solidify two more first places finishes.

鈥淥verall we are very pleased with both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams. Success of the group as a whole is directly related to the fact that all team members want to perform at the national level. There is a national focus this year that has made each individual swimmer focused,鈥 explains David Fry, head coach for the 麻豆传媒 swim teams.

The 麻豆传媒 teams were also recipients of both Rookie of the Meet Awards. Bryan Fumerton, an integrated science student from Uxbridge, Ont., was recognized on the men鈥檚 side, while Chantelle Percival, an arts student from Halifax, NS was the recipient on from the women鈥檚 team.

Capturing 34 first place finishes out of 38 events, this dynamic team is well on their way to the CIS Championships at UBC, which will take place February 21 鈥 23. Currently the 麻豆传媒 squad has nine women and 10 men that have qualified for the CIS Championships. They include: Danielle Adam, Terri-Lynn Benison, Lauren Dorrington, Magda Gawlik, Bevan Haley, Kristen Vandenberg, Chantelle Percival, Jenn Brown, Jamie Longobardi, Philippe Boilard, Bryan Fumerton, Brannyn Hale, Greg Hanlon, Guido Iannucci, Matt Keuken, David MacDonald, Dmitry Shulga, Bryce Tung, Doug Young.
