Networking Panel: Careers in Intellectual Property

Join the ChIPs Eastern Canada Chapter for an in-person and virtual networking panel aimed at women in Technology, and Intellectual Property (IP) and Policy.

This is the second event in the Law & Technology Institute's new Tech Tok series, a six-part multi-disciplinary and inter-faculty speaker series that aims to provide meaningful opportunities to engage in discussion on current and emerging technology law and policy issues.

Co-hosted by initio Technology & Innovation Law Clinic and Springboard Atlantic, this session will spotlight careers in IP featuring the experiences of women currently working in the field.

The panel will be moderated by Kristy-Anne Ruthenberg, an associate with Osler's IP division (Ottawa, ON) and includes the following speakers:

Horace E. Read Memorial Lecture: Searching for the Truth

�鶹��ý the Lecture: the Read Lecture series was inaugurated in 1975 to honour the memory of the late Horace E Read, OC, QC, who was Dean of �鶹��ý Law School from 1950 until 1964, in recognition of his contribution to legal education and legal scholarship.

Dr. Read's areas of interest were broad: law reform, legislation and the legislative process, conflict of law, labour law and legal education, and this is well reflected in the diversity of the lectures.

�鶹��ý the Topic: Is a criminal trial a search for the truth? How do we navigate between the trial process and our day-to-day life in that elusive search?

�鶹��ý the Speaker: The Honourable Lousie Arbour has had a long and distinguished career in international affairs. She is a senior counsel with the firm Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), providing strategic advice on litigation, governance and international disputes, and mentoring younger lawyers.

Arbour is also a retired justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. She previously served as the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, and United Nations secretary general’s special representative for international migration.
