Bio:

Andrew Rau-Chaplin is a Professor of Computer Science and director of the Risk Analytics Lab at Â鶹´«Ã½, Canada. He received a M.C.S. and Ph.D. from Carleton University in Ottawa in 1990 and 1993, respectively. From 1993 to 1994 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at DIMACS - a National Science Foundation center run by Princeton University, Rutgers, and AT&T Bell labs. In 1994 he joined the faculty at the Technical University of Nova Scotia and in 1997 became a professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at Â鶹´«Ã½.

Dr. Rau-Chaplin’s research has focused on the application of High Performance Computing (HPC) in data and computationally intensive challenges in domains including data warehousing, OLAP, spatial information systems, catastrophe modeling, and risk analytics. His academic research has led to over 100 publications in conferences and journals and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. students have gone on to positions in academia and leading technology companies including Google, Microsoft, and Intel. His academic research is grounded in an algorithmic perspective, but he is committed to addressing the systems issues inherent in building working HPC applications, and performing systematic experimental evaluations.
