Agreement Information 2024-2025

Policies

麻豆传媒's parking year is September 1st - August 31st.

  • Overnight parking is not permitted between the hours of聽1:30 AM 鈥 6:00 AM.聽seven days a week
  • To park on-campus, you will need to purchase a virtual permit or download the HotSpot app for short-term parking where applicable. 聽Failure to do so will result in a parking ticket being issued and the vehicle may be immobilized at the owner鈥檚 expense.
  • HotSpot Parking (paid parking) is available within the McCain Parkade from 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM weekdays and 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM on weekends and holidays.
  • HotSpot Parking (paid parking) is available within the Rosina Parking Lot located at Sexton Campus Monday-Friday 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM as well as weekends from 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM.
  • HotSpot Parking (paid parking) is available in the Alumni West Parking Lot (former Tennis Court area) Monday to Friday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.聽
  • Only permits issued through HotSpot are valid while parked on site.
  • The absence of a 鈥楴O PARKING鈥 sign does not necessarily indicate that parking is permitted in a particular area. Parking is not permitted on lawns, walk-ways, fire lanes, designated safety zones, etc鈥)
  • If part of a parking lot or parkade must be closed for a period of time to carry out maintenance or repair, the University will not be held responsible to provide alternative parking during that period.
  • The cost of repairing damage to University property caused by or through the operation of a vehicle will be charged to the owner of the vehicle.
  • Revoked permits are not subject to financial compensation. Parking permits are for the exclusive use of the original applicant.
  • By issuing a permit, the University assumes no responsibility for damage to, or theft of, any vehicle and/or its contents. The University does not assume any responsibility for injury or collision however caused.
  • 麻豆传媒 employees registered as part-time students are not eligible for student permits.
  • Only persons currently enrolled or employed at 麻豆传媒 will be entitled to purchase a parking permit.聽聽
  • Purchasers may receive a prorated refund up to 30 days from the date of purchase.
  • The purchase of a general parking permit does not guarantee the purchaser that a parking space will be available on University property. Except for reserved parking, all parking on University property is on a space-available basis. General Parking permits are subject to an oversell strategy designed to maximize the utilization of surface parking on campus.
  • All General and Reserved Permits requires a 12 month commitment from the purchaser. 聽

Outdoor Reserved (accessible parking)

Application for Accessible Reserved parking for employees requires review and approval by 麻豆传媒 Human Resources Disability Case Manager. In the case of students this review shall be directed to聽Student Accessibility Centre (Halifax Campus) and the聽Student Success Centre聽(Agricultural Campus)

  • Outdoor reserved parking spaces are almost exclusively used for accessible parking
  • All outdoor reserved parking spaces on University property are reserved from 6:00 am until 4:30 pm, seven days per week
  • Outdoor reserved permit holders who plan to be away from the University for one month or more are required to advise so that their spaces may be temporarily reassigned
  • Between 6:00 am 鈥 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, outdoor reserved permits are only valid at their designated reserved parking space or lot.聽 During聽evenings (4:30 pm聽 鈥撀 1:30聽 am)聽 and聽 weekends聽 (6:00聽 am聽 鈥撀 1:30聽 am)聽 outdoor reserved permits are聽 also聽 valid聽 at聽 any聽 general parking space聽 on campus
  • Outdoor reserved permit holders may be authorized to use general parking spaces between 6:00 am 鈥 1:30 am, Monday through Sunday, if prior authorization is provided.

Ticketing

Any violation of the University parking regulations may result in a 麻豆传媒 parking ticket.

Ticketable offenses:

  • HotSpot violations
  • Overnight parking
  • Parking in 鈥渘o parking鈥 areas
  • Occupying more than one parking spot
  • Parking on university property without a virtual permit
  • Any vehicle other than a motorcycle (cars, trucks, vans) found parked in or covering a motorcycle space will be ticketed and towed / immobilized at the owner鈥檚 expense.

Parking ticket costs:

  • The cost of a聽麻豆传媒 parking ticket is $20.00.
  • The penalty for illegally聽parking in accessible parking areas will range from $20 to $100.00.

Permit cancellations:

  • Continued parking violations within a twelve (12) month period will result in the cancellation of the permit and/or withdrawal of University parking privileges; as will failure to observe traffic signs or to comply with the instructions of any authorized official employed in the control of traffic or parking.

Tire locking (also known as booting)

Parking enforcement has first-offense immobilization, or 鈥渂ooting,鈥 for vehicles without Dal permits parked without authorization on the Halifax campuses.

For vehicles with Dal permits a tire locking device will be used on the 4th聽parking ticket and all subsequent parking tickets for the remainder of the year.

  • The cost to have the locking device removed is $100

Towing

A vehicle will be towed in situations that could potentially impact personal safety or cause damage to university property, including:

  • Parking on walkways, grassed, or landscaped areas
  • Blocking access and exit roads or obstructing the movement of traffic
  • Obstructing snow removal operations
  • Obstructing a fire hydrant, fire lane, fire door, or loading zone and/or a point of entry/exit of a building
  • Damaged or vehicles not in good working order that are leaking fluid or hazardous vapors that may spill onto University property

Appeal policy

In the event that the ticket recipient is not satisfied with the resolution, the individual can submit their complaint, in writing, to聽parking@dal.ca

Overnight parking

  • An overnight parking permit is required to park on University property between the hours of 1:30 am and 6:00 am on any given day. Employees regularly scheduled to work at night may be eligible for an overnight parking permit, if prior authorization is provided.聽
  • Employees and students who possess valid University parking permits, and are involved in academic related projects on campus, may occasionally be authorized to park between 1:30 am and 6:00 am, at a location approved by parking services.
  • Employees who qualify for overnight parking permits, and individuals who are authorized to purchase a daily parking permit (in addition to their general parking permit) to park on University property, between 1:30 am and 6:00 am, (this includes any employee or student who wishes to park on university property due to snow storms or other inclement weather conditions)聽must聽inform parking services of their location and provide a telephone number while parked on the property at night. 聽Vehicles whose owners cannot be contacted by or do not display an authorized permit, will be subject to ticketing and the vehicle may be towed at the owner鈥檚 expense.
  • Vehicles that are potentially obstructing snow clearing activities will be towed at the owner鈥檚 expense.

Motorcycle parking

  • General permits - motorcycles may only be parked at general motorcycle parking spaces.
  • Motorcycles shall not be parked on patios, roadways, sidewalks or lawns, or where they may cause an obstruction or possible injury.
  • Any motorcycle parked in violation of these regulations will be subject to ticketing and may be towed / immobilized at the owner鈥檚 expense.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

  • Electric vehicle Charging Stations are to be used for charging plug-in electric vehicles or electric hybrid vehicles with a current 麻豆传媒 Virtual Permit only. The vehicles must be plugged in and actively charging while in these spots.聽
  • The charging station on Norma Eddy Lane (behind Gerard Hall) is open to permit and non-permit holders and there is a fee to use the charger.聽 The vehicle is only to be parked there while it is plugged in and actively charging.
